Departure to Mallorca

Meanwhile the new upholstery (in red)

and the bimini for the cockpit are finished, – the old bimini locked rather aged and torn.

The sailmaker from Mallorca also came to Denia to measure our sails in detail, so that he can start preparing them in order to get them done till April 10. Most certainly we will have ‘Hydranet’ sails again, as we were very satisfied with those on our ex-GrosDoux.

Furthermore our toilets are now altered so that we can either use fresh or sea water to flush them. Before they used only fresh water for flushing, – what a waste of valuable ‘goods,.

Our fridges / freezers (we have three in all), were cooled by means of sea water. We changed that to cooling via the fresh water tank, meaning the system runs also when we are on a dry dock.

Most certainly we wanted a city-water inlet again. This time the inlet is from the cockpit, to avoid having hoses through the back of the boat, thus minimizing the risk in case of a leak. – Also here we learnt our lesson, because we already had a leak after installing the city-water inlet on ex-GrosDoux in Turkey…

In-between all those activities, we found some time to watch the Spring festival in Denia (so-called: Fallas). Every year groups build real art works of papier maché, only to burn those after the award. – Yes, they really burn them. – It’s a tradition based on the old days, when people burnt their old furniture on the streets greeting Spring. – Today it is professionals who make nothing else the whole year than building these structures and the most expensive ones cost up to 250’000 Euros:

I liked this sculpture best, – it’s sooo cute, isn’t it? 🙂 🙂 🙂

Robin has to fly again to Switzerland in order to get the registration of our Swiss flag and the MMSI number done. – I stay on Carré d’As to make sure everything’s fine and the rest of the work is done. But I’ve also lots of things left to store. Especially all the spare parts, tools and other necessary boat stuff needs to be sorted and stored properly, so that we’ll find things fast in case of emergency. – However, I couldn’t figure out for what ‘men’ need so many tiny ‘shoes’:

We almost made it: happy and satisfied Robin came back with our new Swiss registration and most of the works are done, – or at least we thought so. To make sure everything’s fine, we test all systems, but what an unpleasant surprise: the bow thruster does not work anymore. – So it’s proven again: never ever think that everything works on a boat!

Robin and Erich (a worker of the local yacht service) disassemble the dammed thing. They find loads of rust, – it seems there was no service done for quite some time, – poor thing.

On March 30, 2018 off we sail to Ibiza. After almost 10 hours and 65,2 nm we anchor in Cala Talamanca, which is next to Ibiza town.

The trip was not as uneventful as hoped as we found water in quite some bilges within the boat. Thus we have to monitor those and most important find the reason for the water. Luckily only in one of the bilges the water is salty, meaning it comes from the outside, – we hope it’s old sea water from the known old water break-in.

After a rather quiet night we decide to stay here till moving on to Cabrera on April 1, 2018, – a lovely small island south-east from Mallorca. We’ve been there several times before with charter boats, – and it was always extremely nice in the deep and well protected bay with the safe buoys.

Our next update will follow by mid-April, in which we’ll tell you more about our adventures with Carré d’As.

See u soon!
