Columbretes - Carre d'As + Mamita

Finally we start again!

After several flight cancellations, we are allowed to travel to Barcelona on June 22, – hurray. First of all we have to prepare our Carré d’As for take-off. After that long in the harbor we have to do a lot. – To our great joy everything essential works fine.

Unfortunately nobody did the cleaning of the boat, thus we scrub und polish till everything looks nice and shiny. Although we know well that our joy is only of a short time as wind and seawater will do their utmost to destroy our cumbersome work, we do it nevertheless. At least at the beginning of the season our Carré d’As deserves a special treatment as she has to carry us over the sea safely….

Two days prior to our departure, the owners of SY Mamita, an AMEL 50, arrive. Most certainly we’ve to exchange lots of AMEL-knowledge and find that we have other things to talk about as well. So it happens that the two – Mark and Aine – decide to sail along with us.

Together we sail to the Ebro-Delta, the rice store of Spain. As here the river Ebro flows into the sea and you’ll find lots of fish and mussel farms, the water doesn’t look inviting. Consequently I postpone my first sea bath to the Islas Columbretes, which are our next stop. – Here we are, – how beautiful!

As we are in a protected area, it’s not permitted to anchor, which wouldn’t be recommended on the stony ground either. But they offer buoys on which you may stay with the permission of the Rangers. Therefore you’ll have to radio the Ranger on channel 9, and they will tell you if and which buoy is available. To make a reservation in advance isn’t possible at the moment, thus if all of them are taken you have to sail on. Astonishing is that the buoys are free of charge, – that’s nice.

How our voyage continues you’ll learn in our next update mid of July.

See u soon!
