Tunisia / Monastir

April 2016 – we went from Malta to Monastir to get the antifouling done. In the Cap Monastir marina we felt good and safe. Checking in and out was easy and did not cost anything. People in general were friendly and supportive.

Mohamed Mrad’s team did a great job doing the new antifouling Coppercoat; – everything was scraped off manually first, please refer also to our April 2016 update. The antifouling we brought from Malta (ordered and shipped from Germany to Malta) as it is not available in Tunisia.

Fathi, the Mechanic did a good job on various little tasks we had to do.

Mohamed and his sons Mehdi and Abdel did a great job on canvas work – fender socks, adjustments to the sprayhood, a cover for the dinghy and other small things.

Prices for all works were moderate and the quality of the work was good, but as we learnt already dearly, one should be there to check the work.

The only downfall is the communication – it is not easy to get in contact with any of them from afar. That is where Mike Turner, an English guy living in Hammamed (Yasmin) helped a lot. He made everything possible as kind of agent, thus did all the communication between the parties. Moreover it helps alot if you speak some French.

We would go there again anytime and can only recommend it to all sailors!

In general, we felt also very safe in the old town of Monastir where we went shopping regularly.
